My students and I are excited to introduce our new student teacher from Morningside College, Miss Krommenhoek!
Her BIO: I was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. There I attended Lincoln and Leeds Elementary schools then North Middle and High School. Throughout school, I was an active volunteer as well as involved in several extra-curricular activities. It was through these experiences that I realized my passion for individuals with various special needs. I began attending Morningside College in the fall of 2015 where I remained involved through cheerleading and color guard. I was a double major in elementary and special education with a reading endorsement. This double major gave me vast experiences in classrooms that ranged from kindergarten-sixth grade. I am graduating December of 2018 from Morningside College as a double major with degrees in Elementary Education (k-6) and special education (k-8) as well as a reading endorsement (k-12).

This Earth Day, my students and I gave back to the environment in which we live by picking up litter around our school. Together we made a difference!
In Science, our classroom has been learning about motion, design, speed, and acceleration. For our lab, the students were able to use their creativity to construct their own "egg cars" and calculate their rate of speed. Check it out!
My classroom has been working on “Menu Math” throughout the school year in which students locate specific items on a menu and then add the cost of the items to determine the total cost. With this in mind, I wanted the students to make a real-world connection by transferring the newly acquired skill to a real-world setting by taking the students to Harvey’s restaurant in Riverside. While at Harvey’s, students got the experience of independently ordering menu items, adding up their own bill to find the total cost, and use the appropriate amount of money to pay for their meal. One of my students even got the opportunity to ring up customer tickets on a real register, use the credit card machine, and give change. A special thank-you to Harvey's restaurant for helping make this a fun and memorable experience for my classroom!
My students shined bright in the "Spread the Word to End the Word" campaign at West Middle School. Check it out! In light of our Social Studies theme "American Peacekeepers" (as well as to celebrate Black History Month), my students enjoyed making and eating their own "peace"za! Check out the fun!
